Annabelle’s Book Club Partners With Rebel Girls For Disability Pride

The past decade has seen the rise and fall of many businesses, but amidst this fluctuation, there’s one woman in Los Angeles who has been able to translate her passion for reading into a thriving bookstore. Annabelle’s Book Club LA is not just a shop filled with pages; it’s a hub for dialogue, engagement, and unity in the form of an inclusive and accessible venue for all.

A deep dive into the origins of Annabelle’s Book Club reveals a narrative punctuated by resilience and innovation. A voracious reader since her childhood, Annabelle found a silver lining in the global pandemic that commenced in 2020. She witnessed an influx of requests for book recommendations, which catalyzed her to create an Instagram account and blog showcasing her favorite Young Adult novels. As the blog evolved, it branched out to feature interviews with notable authors, bookstore owners, and other eminent individuals from the literary universe. Annabelle’s online success paved the way for her first physical store, which opened in November, achieving substantial customer response and support.

The backbone of Annabelle’s Book Club lies in its inclusive ethos. A keen promoter of underrepresented voices, the bookstore embraces a variety of narratives, celebrating authors and stories that may otherwise go unheard. When asked about book recommendations for Disability Pride Month, Annabelle enthusiastically suggested Keah Brown’s YA debut, “The Secret Summer Promise,” and Selma Blair’s courageous memoir, “Mean Baby.” She further praised “Breathe and Count Back From Ten” by Natalia Sylvester, and Andrew Leland’s “The Country of The Blind,” all providing rich insight into the experiences of disabled individuals.

The commitment to inclusivity has led to an exciting collaboration with Rebel Girls for Disability Pride Month. Annabelle expressed immense admiration for the shared mission and dedication of Rebel Girls. The event will take place on Sunday, July 30th and will include book readings from the fifth volume of the best-selling Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls series, 100 Inspiring Young Changemakers, which shines a spotlight on extraordinary young women who are making their mark on the world today.

Above all, Annabelle’s Book Club LA is more than a bookstore—it’s a community. Annabelle passionately believes in the importance of human connection, particularly highlighted during the isolating times of the pandemic.

Her bookstore serves as a cornerstone for this interaction, fostering relationships through various author events, book signings, readings, and more. Annabelle’s ambition for her store is to create an environment where all feel welcomed and heard. In the upcoming fall, she aims to expand the sense of community through a series of events aimed at bridging connections and promoting diverse narratives.
