As the gender pay gap persists, Harvard economist Claudia Goldin was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences yesterday for her work on providing “the first comprehensive account of women’s earnings and labor market participation through the centuries.” Goldin analyzed over 200 years of data and chronicled critical moments in women’s rights history to bust some myths about the gender pay gap and women’s participation in the labor force. And while the award makes her only the third woman to win the accolade, it’s arguably a win for all women in the workplace.

Speaking of the pay gap, Google is going to court over alleged pay discrimination for the first time in the company’s history. The lawsuit alleges that a female executive at Google had been unfairly hired at a lower level than several men in her role with similar backgrounds and experience, which the executive claims cost her hundreds of millions of dollars in “past and future lost wages and benefits.”

In this week’s issue, find career advice and more news such as Zoom taking on AI in a hybrid work world.
